Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the apparatus for controlling the direction of air flow in an air conditioner, in which a movable nozzle member is interposed between an inlet section and an outlet section for enabling to change the direction of air flow through a wide angle by moving the nozzle member through a relatively short distance. CONSTITUTION:The outlet section 4 connected to the inlet section 2 in the form of a duct having a rectangular cross section is constituted by upper and lower plates 12, 13 and guide walls 10, 11 having such a curvature as to increase the width of fluid flow gradually toward the downstream, and a nozzle member 3 is interposed between the inlet section 2 and the outlet section 4 in the manner that it can be moved freely in a direction perpendicular to the fluid flow. This nozzle member 3 forms a nozzle between its tops 16 and 17, and the nozzle width WR is made smaller than the width Wi of the fluid passage in inlet section 2. Here, if the nozzle member 3 is displaced from its central position, for instance, toward the left, back pressure at a right-side back pressure producing part 23 is increased but that at a left-side back pressure producing part 22 is decreased. Therefore, fluid flow A11 can be deflected in response to the difference of the back pressure at the parts 22 and 23.
