Abstract

PURPOSE: To dry sludge without using fuel by mounting a drying plate formed by binding charcoal with mortar in a drier, charging sludge onto the plate, returning the resulting sanitary sewage through a return pipe, and drying the residual sludge with air from upper and lower air feed pipes.
CONSTITUTION: The drier is provided with drying plate 5 formed by vertically arranging charcoal 7 cut to 10cm length in the frames of iron reinforcing rods 6 and pouring mortar 8 between charcoals 7. Sludge 10 introduced onto plate 5 from flowing water inlet 9 is separated into upper-layer sewage and lower-layer sludge 10. The sewage is returned through return pipe 11, and water in sludge 10 permeates into charcoal 7. Air is then fed from vent holes 13, 14 provided over and under plate 5 to evaporate the water permeated into charcoal 7. Thus, the sludge is dried. The fed air is exhausted from exhaust pipe 18 with fan 19.
