Abstract

PURPOSE: To reutilize the sensible heat of concentrated sea water, by concentrating high temp. exhaust water from an engine cooled with sea water, and by recycling a portion of the concd. water for cooling the engine.
CONSTITUTION: Sea water is led through a pipe line 1, a pump 2 to the jacket of a sea-water-cooled engine in order to cool the engine. High temp. exhaust water is sent by way of a pipe line 4 to an air-separator 5. After the removal of air, a portion of the sea water is discharged to the outside of the ship through a line 6, and the other portion is led through a pipe line 7 to a fresh water making apparatus 8 by evaporation. The apparatus 8 is kept at a vacuum by an air-removing apparatus 9, hereby the exhaust water led into the apparatus 8 is flushed and evaporated through a spray nozzle 10. The generated steam condenses in a condenser 11, reserved in a receiving tray 12, then it is drawn off by a pump 13 and is used as fresh water. Concd. exhaust water accumulated in a concd. water reservoir 14 is recycled by a pump 15 by way of branch pipe 17 for low temp. concd. water to the pump 2 so as to be reused. The mixed water is used for cooling although its temp. is raised a little. In spite of the increase in salt concn., it is used without difficulty to a concn. about two times the original concn.
