Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled composite membrane useful as an absorbent material in a blood purifying apparatus without causing a rapid change in ion concentration in the blood, by fixing an ion exchange resin subjected to ion exchange by an electrolytic ion to the breakthrough point with a water absorbing high polymer.
CONSTITUTION: An ion exchange resin, e.g. a Ca type ion exchange resin, is subjected to ion exchange by an electrolytic ion, e.g. an aqueous solution of calcium chloride or sodium bicarbonate, capable of releasing the ion exchange resin, to the breakthrough point, dried and pulverized to a fine particle of particle size ≤100μ, and mixed with an equal amount of an HCO3 type ion exchange resin. 1pt.wt. the mixture is then mixed with 0.2W1.0pt.wt. a solution of a water abosrbing high polymer, e.g. polyhydroxyethyl methacrylate, and cast over a substrate, e.g., Teflon, in the form of a membrane, dried and heat-treated at 60W100°C for 1W 2hr. The dried resin membrane is then peeled from the substrate, swollen in a deionized pure water to give the aimed composite resin membrane.
