Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the tension of a print ribbon at the beginning of actual use of a ribbon cartridge to equalize the ribbon tension all through the use of the cartridge by arranging a friction member of a predetermined shape in contact with an end face of a wound print ribbon and by supporting a ribbon spool on a projection which has a surface of a predetermined diameter.
CONSTITUTION: A friction member 25 is shaped into a trapezoid which has its width gradually decreasing towards the outer peripery of a wound print ribbon 3 in inverse proportion to the radius (r) of wound turns of the print ribbon 3. Since a shaft cylinder of a ribbon spool 7 is supported on a projection 23 which has a surface 22 of a diameter smaller than a diameter D1 of the shaft cylinder, there is no change in the radius which is effective on a friction torque even though the radius (r) of the wound turns of the print ribbon 3 wound on the ribbon spool 7 is decreased. Since the friction member 25 is contacted with an end face 20 of the wound turns of the print ribbon 3, the ratio of change of the tension relative to change of the radius of the wound turns of the print ribbon 3 is minimized. By the construction, the tension of the print ribbon 3 at the begining of actual use thereof is reduced so that it can be kept constant all through the use of the print ribbon 3 until it is used up, thus preventing possible troubles pertaining to the print ribbon.
