Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the degree of deterioration of the heat-resisting steel rapidly and with high precision by a method wherein a particle-diameter frequency curve of the M23C6 carbonate educed in the heat-resisting steel is found and the curve is compared with the particle-diameter frequency curve of the M23C6 carbonate separated in an employed heat-resisting steel member.
CONSTITUTION: In the measurement of the life of the heat-resisting steel such as the blade material for a steam turbine, the M23C6 carbonate in a creep interruption material, for instance, which shows the values of 1/5, 2/5, 3/5 and 4/5 in relation to a breakage time tR in the course of a creep test for the 12% CrMoVW steel is observed by means of an electronic microscope and the particle- diameter frequency curve is measured. The graphs of particle diameter and number of pieces of the M23C6 carbonate form the curve 1 prior to the test and the curves 2W6, as shown in the figure (X), for the creep interruption times 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, and 4/5 and for the breakage time, respectively. The position of the peak of the particle diameter and the number pieces transfers to that of larger diameter of the particle. In addition, when the total sum of the area of the carbonate within a straigth line 8 which is the limit of the size of the carbonate allowing the observation thereof and the particle diameter of 0.2 or less is found for the curves 1W6, the figure (Y) is obtained. Thus, when the curve of deterioration with the elapse of year is once prepared, the estimation of the degree of deterioration with the elapse of year becomes possible.
