Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an optical glass having a high refractive index, a low dispersity, a high stability against devitrification, and excellent chemical durability by adding given amounts of SiO2 and alkaline earth metal oxides to requisite specific components, e.g., B2O3, La2O3, etc.
CONSTITUTION: An optical glass contains 11W33wt% B2O3, 26W50wt% La2O3, 6W24wt% Y2O3, 1W12wt% ZrO2, 1W33wt% Ta2O3, 5.5W31wt% WO3, and 5.2W11wt% ZnO as requisite components, together with 0W6wt% SiO2, 0W5wt% an alkaline earth metal oxide, 0W8wt% Nb2O5, 0W8wt% TiO2, and 0W8wt% PbO. The optical glass, having a refractive index of 1.76W1.92 and an Abbe number of 35W48, is stable against devitrification, excellent in chemical durability, and of a practical light transmittivity and also contains no harmful radioactive Th for human body, as in the case of the conventional products.
