Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare NaOCl with a small pressure difference between anode and cathode chambers by a method wherein a reactor is filled with aqueous NaOH solution, which is brought into contact with gaseous Cl2 diluted with atmospheric air sucked into the vacuumed reactor.
CONSTITUTION: Catholyte is circulated through a catholyte tank 2 into a cathode chamber 14 where NaOH and H2 gas are generated. H2 gas is discharged through line 45 from the system. NaOH solution, when reached to a specified concentration, is sent to a reactor 6. Anolyte is circulated through an anolyte tank 3 int an anode chamber 15, where Cl2 gas is generated and is sent to the reactor 6, so that Cl2 reacts with NaOH solution and forms NaOCl solution. To guide Cl2 gas into the reactor 6, the reactor 6 is evacuated by a suction pump 50. Cl2 gas is diluted with air from air duct line 43 installed at Cl2 gas line 42, then the diluted Cl2 gas is guided into the reactor 6. The anolyte decreased in NaCl concentration is sent to a NaCl solution adjusting tank 7.
