Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase gas exchanging capability as well as raise mechanical strength of capillary tube assemblage by arranging closely parallelized silicone rubber capillary tubes in large numbers in a planiform and then combining them with a membrane of the same material as said capillary tube over their whole length.
CONSTITUTION: Fine silica powder as a reinforcement is added to polydimethyl- siloxane to prepare a silicone elastomer, and then the elastomr is heated and extruded through the die of anextruder into the capillary tube assemblage 1, and then vulcanized. A plural number of the capillary tube assemblage 1 are made into a gas exchange device by sufficiently sealing and bonding the cut portions of the pipe 2, or near the sectional portions excluding the mouth of the pipe. The gas exchange device can be applied in devices for decomposing mixed gases, concentrating gas, etc., including artificial lung .
