Abstract

PURPOSE: To make a heat denitrating mechanism continuous and simple and obtain oxide of uniform quality by irradiating a dropped soln. of uranyl nitrate or plutonium nitrate with microwaves introduced through a waveguide to carry out heat denitration.
CONSTITUTION: Microwave heating oven 1 is a stainless steel container to prevent microwave from escaping to the outside and isolate the atmosphere from the outside. An uranyl nitrate soln., a plutonium nitrate soln. or a mixed soln. thereof is dropped into oven 1 through dropper 2 in the form of liq. droplets. While passing through oven 1 the droplets are heated with microwaves from waeguide 3, concd., dried, and denitrated to form fine grain oxide. The oxide enters cyclone separator 4 by vacuum suction together with generated gas, and in separator 4 it is separated from the gas and fed to powder container 8. On the other hand, the gas is exhausted through exhaust pipe 6.
