Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a foam having excellent flame retardancy, by impregnating a soft polyurethane foam with a phosphate and subsequently with a resin emulsion.
CONSTITUTION: A soft polyurethane foam is immersed in an aqueous solution (50W 90°C) of a phosphate such as primary sodium phosphate or primary potassium phosphate to impregnate the foam with 50W600wt%, based on foam, of phosphate. The impregnated foam is dried. Then, the dried foam is immersed in an emulsion of a resin such as chloroprene rubber or PVC, to impregnate the foam with 50W 300wt%, based on foam, of resin. Then, after removing excessively adhesive resin emulsion, the foam is dried to remove water and to fix the phosphate within the cells of foam.
