Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high quality by compensating not only nonlinear distortion of a semiconductor laser but also distortion due to connection characteristics of optical fiber, by providing negative feedback on detecting part of a photosignal propagat- ing in the optical fiber following an optical fiber connection part. CONSTITUTION:Photo-output signal 5 from semiconductor laser 3 is input to the 1st optical fiber 7 and further led to the 2nd optical fiber 15 via connection part 20, and its projected light enters transmitting optical fiber 16 to obtain a photosignal propagating in fiber 16. Light split circuit 19 divides part of the photosignal into monitor optical fiber 17 and this divided photosignal becomes projected photosignal 18 by propagating in fiber 17; and it is converted 8 into electric signal 11, which is negatively fed back 13 to transmitted electric signal 1 via feedback circuit 12. Because of the constitution mentioned above, distortion due to characteristics of connection part 20 of fibers 7 and 15 can be compensated simultaneously with nonlinear distortion of laser 3, so that signals can be transmitted with fidelity.
