Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance useful as spices in high yield by simple process, by isomerizing dihydromyrceneepoxide in the presence of an aluminum compound or an aromatic sulfonic acid, optionally followed by acylation.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by the formula I is isomerized in the presence of an aluminum compound or aromatic sulfonic acid, and optionally esterified by using an acylating agent to give a compound shown by the formula II or III (R is H or 1W5C alkyl). An aluminum alcoholate, e.g., aluminum methylate, aluminum n- propylate, etc. may be preferably cited as the aluminum compound, and 5W20wt% based on the compound shown by the formula I aluminum compound is present in the reaction which is carried out at 130W180°C. In the case of the aromatic sulfonic acid, 5W20wt% based on compound shown by the formula I aromatic sulfonic acid is present in the reaction which is carried out at not higher than 30°C, to give a compound shown by the formula II.
