Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield readily useful as a drug or its raw material, by reacting a phosphonium salt with an aldehyde in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide.
CONSTITUTION: A phosphonium salt shown by the formula I (R1 is H, lower alkly, or aromatic group; X and Y are halogen) is reacted with an aldehyde shown by the formula R2CHO (R2 is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aromatic group) in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide in a solvent, e.g., aromatic hydrocarbon, etc. at -90W -30°C to give the desired compound shown by the formula II. A process wherein first the phosphonium is reacted with the alkali metal alkoxide to give a reaction product, which is reacted with the aldehyde in the presence of the alkali metal alkoxide is preferable from the standpoint that an amount of by-products is small and the desired compound is obtained in high yield.
