Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve filtration performance and improve the endurance of oil injection valves in particular by using expandable vinyl acetate sponge as a filter medium. CONSTITUTION:If expandable vinyl acetate sponge of 2-5mm. thickness is used as a filter medium for the fuel oil filter of an internal combustion engine, the sizes of the particles to be filtered become <=1.2 microns and when the rate of fuel oil inflow at the inlet of the filter surface is made <=0.5mm./sec., the intervals for taking care of filter medium owing to its clogging becomes >=3,000hr. The wear of oil injection valves which is a particular problem with the filtered particles in fuel oil is thereby considerably improved.
