Abstract

PURPOSE: To present a high-performance flux used at the submerged arc welding of steel materials which is obtained by using TiO2, Al2O3, SiO2 as essential components and mixing CaO, CaF2, MnO and MgO other than the above-mentioned components, at the specific ratios.
CONSTITUTION: A flux contg. 10W40% TiO2, 10W40% Al2O3, <20% SiO2 and further CaO, CaF2, MnO and MgO. In this case, the respective components mentioned above are so controlled that the value of R expressed by R=0.21×CaO+ 0.16×CaF2+0.13×MnO+0.25×MgO-(0.11×S; O2+25×Al2O3+0.02× TiO2) becomes less than 1.5. Or further 0.05W2.0% B2O3 may be added to the above- mentioned component. This is the flux for submerged arc welding of steel materials by which the highly tough weld metal of good detachability of frozen slag is obtained.
