Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a detector for the neutron in the reactor having a lower sensitivity of both the gamma rays and the neutron than other neutron detector of the same form, by having no dissociation gas but securing a vaccum state between the anode and the cathode.
CONSTITUTION: The intra-reactor neutron detector consists of the sensor part 1 and the double coaxial cable 16. At the part 1 the electrode space 4 between the anode 2 and cathode 3 is set under a vacuum state of about 10-6torr for the detector. In this case, the neutron conversion material can be attached to either one of the anode and the cathode. Here the neutron put into the sensor part 1 of the detector has a reaction with the neutron conversion material 20 to discharge a high-speed electron along with the charge particle. On the other hand, a collision is given between the charge particle and the high-speed electron mentioned above at the electrode with no material 20 stuck, and thus the secondary electron is discharged. But no function is secured to give an ionization to the dissociation gas since a vacuum state is given between the electrodes. As a result, the sensitivity can be reduced by about 2 digits for both the gamma rays and the neutron.
