Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect a shaft sealing member from the adverse influence of a substance by maintaining the temperature of the gas zone nearest to the fluid side at a temperature lower than the temperature of the other gas zone thus making the substance which will adversely affect the shaft sealing member condense.
CONSTITUTION: The temperature of the cooling means 3 nearest to the fluid side is maintained at a temperature lower than that of the other cooling means 4. Thus a condensing substance which will adversely affect a shaft sealing member and contained in the gas existing in the upper part of the tank is made to partly condense in the gas zone 1 and returned to the gaseous zone of the tank. Although the concentrations of the condensing substance in the upper part of the gas zone 1 and gas zone 2 are the same and the gas zone 1 is in saturation, the condensing substance will not condense in the gas zone 2 since the temperature of the gas zone 2 is higher than that of the gas zone 1 so that the shaft sealing member is not affected by the condensate of the condensing substance.
