Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the fear of sinking due to the invasion of seawater and facilitate the cleaning of a strainer or the like, by providing a watertight seawater intake box above the load waterline and inserting a cooling water pipe into the box through its top. CONSTITUTION:An engine 3 is mounted on an engine bed 9 in a FRP-made boat or the like and seawater introduced through a seawater intake box 6 is conducted into the engine 3 through a cooling water pipe 7. The seawater intake box 6 is watertight and extends to a point above the load waterline 20. To make the intake box 6, the bottom board of the body of the boat and the outside board of the stern thereof are recessed and a lid 10 made of an almost L-shaped board is mounted by bolts 14... in a position on the bottom and stern of the boat. Open portions 11, 12 having numerous small holes are provided in the lid 10 on the stern and bottom of the boat. An insertion opening 60 is provided in the top of the intake box 6. A pipe 7 fitted with a strainer 71 on the lower end of the pipe is inserted into the box through the opening 60 and secured by a lid 73 or the like.
