Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize the materials to be stuck on the inside surface of the tundish and melt away and repair the stuck materials right after the working by forming the tundish into the specific construction with an induction heating coil and incorporating heating elements therein right after the casting work.
CONSTITUTION: The tundish is made into the construction wherein a refractory case 2 of approximately cylindrical shape is held by an outer frame 1. An induction heating coil 3 is provided in concentrical circle form on the outer side of the case 2 and a tundish nozzle 9 is provided to the case bottom. Continuous casting work is done by using this, and at the end period, that is, when the temperature of the molten metal in the ladle lowers or from the time when the influx of the molten steel from the ladle into the tundish ends, electric current is supplied to the coil 3 to heat and stir the molten steel inside. As a result of this, the amount of sticking of the base metal and slag on the inside wall and bottom portions of the tundish decreases remarkably. Next, right after ending of the pouring work, and while the tundish is still at a high temperature, the cover 5 with the induction heating elements 6 made of circular cylindrical conductive heat-resistant material of an outside diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the case 2 having beforehand been prepared is put on this. When the coil 3 is then energized, the heating elements 6 become of high temperature and the materials stuck on the inside surface of the case 2 are dropped and flowed out by the heat thereof.
