Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide excellent mechanical strength and the optimum low weight generation rate by establishing a specific relation between the inner and outer diameters of the subject stabilizer made of a hollow pipe. CONSTITUTION:A hollow stabilizer consists of a hollow pipe having a torsion part 1 connected to the body of a car in the middle. On the ends of the tortion part 1 are provided arms 3 which are elongated in one piece construction and connected to the wheel sides through bended portions 2. If d1 stands for the outside diameter, and d2 represents the inside diameter of the hollow pipe, the conventional twisted spring constant must be adopted not to decrease the rigidity with the conventional round bar type stabilizer. Therefore, the relation d0<4>=d1<4>-d2<4> is obtained by making the deflexion angle of the hollow pipe member equal to that of the round bar member, if the diameter of the round bar member is defined as d0. Since 10-40mm. are usually adopted for the value of d0, the equation 10<4=d0<4=40<4> is applied. 0.16<=(d1-d2)/2d1<=0.25 is obtained with further considerations for producing lightweight.
