Abstract

PURPOSE: To test the presence of pin holes on the hollow body easily and precisely by a method wherein the hollow body is immersed in a liquid after being treated with compressed gas in a closed liquid container.
CONSTITUTION: The liquid W is filled in the liquid tank to a desired height, and the hollow body S to be tested is supported on a support 2. At first, on-off valves 15 and 16 are operated so as to close pipes 13 and 14, then a cover 10 is removed, the hollow body S is supported on the support 12 located in air above the liquid surface, and the cover 10 is fitted. Then the valve 15 is opened and the compressed gas is introduced into the tank 1. The valve 15 is closed again, a strut 3 is lowered so as to immerse the hollow body S in the liquid, and the valve 16 is opened to release the compressed gas. In this case, if the hollow body S has any pin holes, the gas is driven into the pin holes at the time of compression operation and thereafter it is released as bubbles into the liquid W at the time of decompression. Accordingly, the presence of the pin holes is clearly detected.
