Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent degradation in quality owing to the dent of both ends on long side of a cast ingot and improve productivity by forming the shape of the molten steel contact surface of the short side of a mold for casting ingot into an arc-shaped concave shape of a limited radius. CONSTITUTION:The basic shape of the molten steel contact surface of the horizontal section of the sides (short sides) 2 of a mold is beforehand made an arc-shaped concave shape 9 of a radius R 0.8-2 times the thickness of an ingot by predicting the bulging of the short sides of the ingot.
