Abstract

PURPOSE:To accomplish safe operation of the engine, by preventing premature ignition by detecting trouble with a knock detecting means from a noise signal level of the output of a vibration sensor and thereby delaying the ignition timing of the engine. CONSTITUTION:In the engine, there is provided an acceleration sensor 1 for detecting vibration of the engine. When engine knocking takes place, output of sensor 1 is a combination of mechanical noises and knock signals and a comparator 4 produces pulses. These pulses are integrated by an integrator 5 and an integrated voltage is produced. Further, since a phase shifter 6 delays the output signal of a wave- form shaping circuit 10 in response to the output voltage of the integrator 5, the ignition timing is delayed resultantly, so that engine knocking is stopped. Thus, it is enabled to prevent malfunctioning of engine and undesirable influences due to excessively advanced ignition and to ensure safe operation of the engine since the ignition timing can be controlled to a delayed phase if it is disabled to control the ignition timing by use of knock signals.
