Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the influence of airflows on ink droplets and stabilize the movement of the ink droplets by a method wherein the cooling or temperature of the jetted gas is controlled and a gas flow is generated so as to entirely envelop the periphery of the flow of the ink droplets jetted from a nozzle. CONSTITUTION:The ink droplets 3 jetted from an ink jet head 2 are deposited onto the recording paper on a rotary drum 8 to produce a print on the paper. On the other hand, a gas is forced from a blower pump 6 to the gas jet nozzle 4 to form a wind-shielding air curtain 5, preventing the airflows generated by the rotation of the drum 8 or by other causes from acting on the jetted ink droplets 3. By detecting the temperature with temperature sensors 9, 10, 11 etc. and controlling the cooling temperature of the gas, the conditions of the zone for the movement of the ink droplets can be stabilized, a constant wind-shielding effect can be maintained, and the movement of the jetted ink droplets can be stabilized.
