Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a device which is able to directly and accurately measure the water level within a nuclear reactor by detecting the temperature difference of the temperature detecting elements mounted at predetermined intervals to the electroheating element in the nuclear reactor.
CONSTITUTION: An electroheating element 3 is disposed in a nuclear reactor vessel 1 and the leads to be led out to outside the vessel are connected to a power supply mechanism 6 via hermetic seals. In addition, temperature detecting elements 7 are spot welded at predetermined intervals to the electroheating element 3 and leads 8 are connected to a water level detecting mechansim 10 via hermetic seals 9. Since the tmperature rise is less below the water level 2 and the temperature rise is high in vapor phase, a temperature difference occurs in the electroheating element with the water level 2 as a boundary. Hence, the position of the tempersature detecting element 7 producing this temperature difference is detected with the level detecting mechanism 10, whereby the position of the water level in the nuclear reactor pressure vessel 1 may be obtained.
