Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure a quick evaluation for the durable intensity of the magnetic disk, by attaching the low-floatup head in the opposite direction to the normal way onto the magnetic disk of the magnetic disk device of contact start-stop (CSS) system and then repeating the CSS of the magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:Low-floatup head 1 having about 0.3-0.1mum floating amount is used. Then head 1 is attached onto magnetic disk 4 in the opposite direction to the normal way and so that air flow-in end 3 of slider taper part 2 of head 1 may be at the flow-out side. Under these conditions, the contact start-stop (CSS) of disk 4 is repeated to give the evaluation to the durable intensity of disk 4. In that case, the rotational direction of disk 4 is shown by the arrow. When head 1 is attached in the opposite direction to the normal way, the floating position of head 1 becomes unsteady. Thus head 1 hits frequently the surface of disk 4. In such way, the durable intensity of the magnetic disk can be evaluated in about 1/10 the conventional time.
