Abstract
PURPOSE: On the oxidation of acenaphthene with oxygen, an N,N-dialkyl lower saturated fatty acid amide and chromium or cobalt ion as a catalyst are used together and the reaction is effected under prescribed conditions to produce the titled substance used as a starting material for fine chemicals in high selectivity.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of at least one of N,N-dialkyl lower saturated fatty acid amides of the formula (R1, R2 are 1W4C alkyl; R3 is H, 1W4C alkyl) such as N,N-dimethylformamide or N,N-diethylacetamide, a chromium ion and/or cobalt ion donor is used as a catalyst, acenaphthene is oxidized with oxygen or an oxygen- containing gas at 60W150°C, preferably 70W120°C, and the reaction is stopped so that the conversion does not exceed 50%.
EFFECT: The present invention permits the application of the high-boiling fraction in coal tar to organic fine chemicals as a starting material.
