Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a method of determining the proper quantity of piece to be cut down and shearing it off based on the sort and size of defects in addition to the shape of a steel ingot and the rolling method applied in blooming.
CONSTITUTION: In the event of hot shearing of a bloom steel piece, the shear plane of the steel piece thus shorn is normally welded and cut by 5W20mm. Then, even when the part of defect is compressed and transformed in the shear plane by the ductile working in shearing, the compressed and transformed part is removed and the part of defect 3 appears clearly on the welded and cut surface 2 of the central part, for instance, in the shear plane 1a of the steel piece 1. Next, after the welding and cutting being performed, the sort and size of the part of defect in the zone or part welded and cut are detected with the eye, and based on the information of defect thus obtained, the quantity of piece to be cut down, i.e. the shearing position is determined in consideration of the sort of a steel ingot and the rolling method applied in blooming in the main. Thus the steel piece is shorn at this position and the part of defect is cut down.
