Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain high sensitivity over the whole visible ray range and to obtain a high SN ratio by electrically coupling a photoconductor with a substrate under a gate electrode and by providing a solid image pickup unit that photodetects incident light by the photoconductor. CONSTITUTION:When semiconductor substrate 10 is type (p), applying a voltage to the 1st gate electrode produces depletion layer 11. Then, a electrode 13 and gate oxidized film 12 have part 14 and 14' removed and electrode 13 and other parts are covered with insulating film 15. Further, the 1st electrodes 16 and 16' electrically connected to substrate 10 are provided and electrodes 16 and 16' are electrically connected to substrate 10. On electrodes 16 and 16', photoconductor 17 is further formed and on photoconductor 17, the 2nd electrode 20 is formed and electrically connected to substrate 10. Consequently, this solid image pickup unit can have high sensitivity over the whole visible ray range and a high SN ratio.
