Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the trouble caused by the leakage of molten steel through porous brick, and to make possible the regulation of the necessary minimum thickness of the brick to remain, by foreseeing the run off of the molten steel according to the temp. information given by a thermocouple set at the outer periphery of a porous brick when gas is blown into the molten steel contained in a ladle through the porous brick.
CONSTITUTION: Gas 6 is blown into molten steel 2 contained in a ladle 1 through porous brick 3, to a prescribed position of which a thermocouple 4 is inserted. The temp. of the brick 3 is measured continuously by a recorder 5 in order to determine the relation between the temp. and the remaining thickness of the brick 3. The temps. corresponding respectively to 50mm, the necessary minimum remaining thickness at the time of replacing the brick are 490 °C. and 120 °C. hence blow-in of the gas is stopped when the indicated temp. of the thermocouple attains 120 °C, 490 °C respectively. It is found as the result of measurement of the remaining thickness that variation in the thickness is regulated to about ±10mm. Formation of crack in the brick shows abnormally high temp. in relation to the remaining thickness, hereby the leakage of molten steel can be foreseen.
