Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide different display functions without any hindrance such as conspicuousness of partition walls, etc. by providing plural injection holes to the cavity between a pair of the substrates affixed together at the peripheral edges and injecting plural dissimilar kind liquid crystals through the respective injection holes.

CONSTITUTION: Upper and lower substrates 1, 1 are affixed together by an adhesive agent serving also as a spacer and, for example, two injection holes 3, 3' are beforehand provided on the upper substrate 1. This empty cell is put in a vacuum vessel; the inside of the vessel is evacuated, and dissimilar liquid crystal materials 4, 5 are dropped into the empty cell injection holes 3, 3'. Next, the inside of the vessel is gradually released of vacuum to allow the liquid crystals 4, 5 to enter the empty cell. After ending of the injecting, the holes 3, 3' are sealed by an adhesive agent. Since the liquid crystal thickness is thin, the boundary of the liquid crystals 4, 5 is linear and their mixing with each other takes place in the extremely limited region of the contact surface, thus there are no problems at all in display performance. In this way, in the case of displaying, for example, the hour, the minute, the second, etc. in different colors, the poor look owing to the partition walls, the increase in spacing, etc. may be avoided.
