Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the damping power of vibration in its high frequency range for a shock absorber and obtain a further comfortable ride, by providing air chambers made of an elastic material on the periphery of a cylinder of the shock absorber and linking said air chambers to the inside of the cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: A piston 2 to which a piston rod 3 is connected is slidably housed in a cylinder 1 to construct a shock absorber. Here hollow cylinder bodies 9, which are shaped in such a manner that their interim parts formed by an elastic material like rubbers as a basic substance are inflated apart from the periphery of the cylinder 1, are engageably mounted to upper and lower parts respectively of the peripheral surface of the cylinder 1, and their upper and lower edges are tightened by respective steel bands 10 to form air chambers 11 between the peripheral surface of the cylinder 1 and the inner face of the hollow cylinder body 9. Then on cylinder walls in the upper and lower air chmabers 11, communication holes 12 larger than an orifice 6 in the piston 2 are provided respectively to link them to top and bottom chambers in the cylinder 1.
