Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve combustion especially in the area of low load driving of a 4-stroke cycle internal combustion engine, by providing in an exhaust gas system a means to generate turbulence by the combustion gas flowing back to the combustion chamber and also providing in an intake system a means to assist in generating turbulent flow in the back-flowing combustion gas.
CONSTITUTION: The upper wall of the combustion chamber 4 is provided with a rotating current guide wall 4 in order to generate rotating currents in the combustion gas that is flowing back to the combustion chamber 4 through an exhaust gas passage 10 due to overlapping of the opening of intake and exhaust valves 12 and 13. The guide wall is of circle arc shape extending along the outer circumferential wall of an exhaust valve port 6 from the outer circumference wall of the combustion chamber 4 towards the center of the combustion chamber 4. The intake valve 12 is provided with a projecting intake gas guide wall 20 to assist in generating rotating currents, which is a spiral extending towards the outer periphery of the valve body from the outer peripheral face of an intake valve actuating lever 19 which is in one body with the valve body of the intake valve 12.
