Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled composite material having ≤1,700°C m.p. and not showing the reflection of α-Al2O3 melt contg. a restricted amount of SiO2 followed by calcination.
CONSTITUTION: A melt contg. polyaluminoxane and a silicon compound is spun and calcined in air to obtain aluminous fiber consisting of ≥72wt% Al2O3 and ≤28wt% SiO2. At this time, the maximum calcining temp. is set so that the reflection of α-alumina is not shown in the X-ray structure. The surface of the fiber may be covered with a metal such as Ni or Ti or ceramics to enhance the reinforcing effect of the fiber, control the reaction with a matrix metal and faxilitate wetting. ≤About 70vol% fiber is then added to the matrix metal or alloy having ≤1,700°C m.p. The rsulting fiber reinforced parts do not undergo deterioration due to electric corrosion and have other features.
