Abstract
PURPOSE: To drive a vehicle safely by employing an obstacle detector consisting of a light source which is operatively connected to a direction indicating lamp provided on the vehicle and which is composed of laser or infrared rays, and a light receiver, and turning on the direction indicating lamp when the vehicle is turned to right or left, so as to allow an obstacle in a space on the sides of the vehicle, the range of which is varied with an amount of turn of the vehicle, to be detected.
CONSTITUTION: When a vehicle is turned to left, a direction indicating switch is shifted to left. As a result, a switch 6 is closed, so that a detector 1 is connected to a vehicle-loaded power source 5. Rays of light are then emitted from a light source 2 for the detector 1 to spaces defined by lines AWB, EWF, and a light receiver 3 receives rays of light from spaces defined by lines CWD, EWF', and a light receiver 3 receives rays of light from spaces defined by lines CWD, EWF'. When an obstacle 9 exists in spaces shaded with diagonal lines (abcd) and (ef'g'h), rays of light the light source 2 are reflected upon the obstacle 9 to enter the light receiver 3. As a result, an alarm 8 is actuated to give an alarm. The light receiver 3 is operatively connected to a steering device via a wire 7 in a horizontal plane. Thus, the obstacle 9 can be certainly detected.
