Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the separation of a noble metal complex catalyst from a homogenous catalytic reaction system, the process which has been conventionally difficult, by a method wherein a fluid which is chemically inactive and has a critical temperature at a specified range and the above reaction system are contacted under a special temperature and pressure condition.
CONSTITUTION: In the catalyst separation from a homogeneous catalytic reaction system using a non-volatile noble metal complex as catalyst, a fluid such as ethane and ethylene which is chemically inactive to the reaction system and has a critical temperature in the range of 0W100°C is brought into contact with the above reaction system at a temperature 1W50°C higher than the critical temperature and under a condition higher than the critical pressure. This causes the reaction products to be selectively moved into the above fluid. In this manner, if the reaction product is a thermally unstable high-boiling material, the catalyst can be easily separated under a quite gentle temperature condition. The method is particulary useful when the reaction product has a b.p. higher than 200°C or is a compound having two or more unsaturated bonds in the molecule.
