Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R1 is H, halogen, amino, phenylglycylamido, R3CONH, etc. (R3 is phenylmethyl, etc.); R2 is benzothiazolyl], and its salt.
EXAMPLE: 3-Phenylacetamido-4-(benzothiazol-2-yl)-dithioazetidin-2-one.
USE: A β-lactam antibiotic, an intermediate thereof, an antimicrobial agent, a β- lactamase inhibitor and an antifungal agent.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II (M is H, K+, etc.) is oxidized to give a compound of formula III, which is reacted with a chloroformate in the presence of a base to form a mixed acid anhydride. The anhydride is then reacted with an aqueous sodium azide to give a compound of formula IV, which is heated in a mixed solution of sulfuric acid, dioxane and water under refluxing to afford a compound of formula V. The resulting compound is then reacted with a 2-mercaptobenzothiazole in a high-boiling solvent to give the compound of formula I.
