Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a produced oil of a low sulfur content and a low pour point from a hydrocarbon oil, by a method wherein hydrogenolysis and hydrodesulfurization are simultaneously carried out in the presence of a catalyst in which a specified metal is carried on alumina contg. zeolite uniformly dispersed therein.
CONSTITUTION: The hydrogenolysis and the hydrodesulfurization of a hydrocarbon oil are simultaneously carried out in the presence of a catalyst in which a metal (e.g. nickel, cobalt, molybdenum) selected from Groups VI and VII of the Periodic Table or a mixt. of the cpd. of said metals is carried on alumina contg. zeolite having a pore diameter of 6W9Å uniformly dispersed therein. The addition of zeolite to alumina is carried out as follows. For example, finely divided zeolite powder is added to alumina sol. While adjusting the pH of the mixt. to 10W11 with an aq. ammonia, the mixt. is stirred to obtain a gel which is then dried and calcined. By such operation, zeolite as fine particles is present in alumina.
