Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to read in the printed characters having many dirts accurately, by calculating the center position from the information of each part of character signal and comparing it with the basic pattern of the characters stored in the dictionary section by taking the center as the base point and reading it.
CONSTITUTION: The picture signal read out from the sensor is stored in the shift register 10, and this signal is delivered to the continuous detection section 11 at the same time for the recognition of dirty signals and character signals. Based on the first, final, uppermost and lowermost parts of the character signal thus obtained, the center position of the character can accurately be calculated at the center detection section 12. Based on the center position, in the character recognizing section 13, the character signal stored in the register 10 is compared with the basic pattern of each character stored in the dictionary section 14 to read the character. Thus, even for the printed characters having many dirts, accurate read-in can be made.
