Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the fall in detection accuracy and the contamination of a hot wire, by installing the hot wire in a primary air feed passage, the primary air flow rate of which varies depending on the quantity of returned exhaust gas of an engine, to detect the quantity of the returned exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: A primary air feed passage 9 is provided so that primary air which varies in inverse proportion to the quantity of returned exhaust gas is supplied to an intake passage 1. A hot wire 11 is provided in the passage 9 to detect the quantity of the primary air which flows through the passage. The quantity of returned exhaust gas is indirectly measured by the detection of the flow rate of the primary air without bringing the hot wire 11 into contact with the exhaust gas. The measured quantity of returned exhaust gas is feedbacked to control the quantity to a command. As a result, the fall in the detection accuracy due to the temperature change of the exhaust gas caused by the contact of the hot wire with the returned exhaust gas and the contamination of the hot wire are prevented.
