Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate a liquid medium from a coal slurry without lowering the quality of coal, by a method wherein an org. solvent is mixed with a coal slurry, the liquid medium is roughly separated from the coal slurry, and further the org. solvent is mixed with the coal to separate the remaining liquid medium.
CONSTITUTION: In a port of discharg, etc., a liquid medium is supplied through a pipe line L6 to a transport tank 3 where the liquid medium is mixed with coal in a mixing ratio of about 50:50 with stirring to produce a coal slurry. An org. solvent (which is soluble in the liquid medium of the coal slurry) through a pipe line L16 is added to the coal slurry within a mixing tank 7 where the org. solvent is mixed with the coal slurry with stirring. The resulting coal slurry is supplied thrugh a pipe line L17 to the first-stage separator 4 where the liquid medium is roughly separated from the coal slurry. The resulting coal is supplied through a pipe line L18 to a washing tank 8 where the coal is washed with the org. solvent supplied from a pipe line L19. The washed coal is supplied through a pipe line L8 to the second-stage separator 5. Then the coal from which the liquid medium is removed is supplied through a pipe line L9 to a dryer 6 where the coal is dried with heating or air-dried until the amount of the remaining liquid medium reaches a level required by the use.
