Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize a miniature and inexpensive light-beam scanner by providing a body of revolution that has an arranged optical focusing system for a light beam from a light source and by making a focused beam take a scan as the body of revolution rotates.
CONSTITUTION: Medium 7 is arranged on a light-beam focusing surface at right angles to rotating shaft 5 and arc-shaped scanning lines 8 are formed. To scan the medium in its longer direction, medium 7 or rotary scanning unit 6 is moved as shown as A or A' respectively. For recording, an electric signal is applied to the driving electric power source of semiconductor laser 1, which performs modulation so as to write information on medium 7. For read operation, a constant-light output is being radiated by laser 1. Here, when medium 7 is transmissive, transmitted light is caught and led out as an electric signal by a proper optical system and photodetector and when reflective, on the other hand, a change in voltage at the terminal is led out as the electric signal by making use of the self-coupling effect that the voltage at the semiconductor laser terminal varies with the quantity of returning light.
