Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a filter capable of burning and removing fine particles present exhaust gas from internal combustion engine only on the heat energy of the exhaust gas by supporting a given proportion of one or more of alkali or alkaline earth metals and rare earth metals on an usual inorganic support.
CONSTITUTION: One or more of alkali or alkaline earth metals and rare earth metals are supported in a proportion of 0.1W5.0mol/l of support on a usual inorganic granular support, e.g., of activated alumina, etc., to obtain a filter for exhaust gas from internal combustion engine. The alkali or alkaline earth metals used include Li, Mg, etc., and also the rare earth metals used include La, Ce, etc. These metals are supported on the support by a usual method, e.g., a method in which an aqueous solution of salts (e.g., nitrates, halides, etc.) of the said metals is impregnated into the said support and then dried or baked.
