Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Thiazolidine-4-carboxylic derivatives of the formula (R is H, lower alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 4-Carboxy-α,β,δ-trihydroxy-2-thiazolidine-butyro-γ-lactone.
USE: They are used as a medicine, because they can be expected to have both actions of the two starting substances, i.e., cystein or its ester and glucuronolactone and simultaneously overcome the instability of cysteine or its ester.
PREPARATION: The reaction of cystein or its ester with glucuronolactone in a solvent such as water gives the compound of the formula. The reaction proceeds at room temperature; however, it may be conducted by heating to 40W60°C to shorten the reaction time to about 20W60min.
