Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound industrially and advantageously, by distilling a reaction solution of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid with an alkylene oxide, and liquefying the vapor in the superheated state in contact with a product spray at the boiling point or below by the parallel flow method.
CONSTITUTION: A reaction solution obtained by the esterification of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid with a 2W4C alkylene oxide is vaporized in a distilling column, and the monomeric vapor is passed through a vapor supply line 1 and fed into a gas-liquid direct contact type condenser 11 in which the temperature of the inner wall of an inlet 10 is cooled to the boiling point of the ester or below at the operating pressure by a cooling jacket 15 while keeping a jacket 16 in the superheated state. The eater cooled to the boiling point thereof or below by the operating pressure is sprayed from a nozzle 14 and brought into the direct connect with a condensate by the parallel flow method. The resultant condensate is then collected in the bottom of the condenser 11 to take out the aimed compound from a line 6.
