Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain flow rate measurement through the measurement of temperature and to prevent erroneous flow rate measurement due to insufficient mixing by providing a mixing device at an upstream position with respect to the junction of a main pipe and a branch pipe which is branched from the main pipe and joined to the main pipe after being heated. CONSTITUTION:A branch pipe 2 having a flow meter 3 and a heater 4 and branched from a main pipe 1 is joined to the main pipe 1 at a junction PM. A stirring device 8, such as a barrage or an orifice, is provided at an upstream position of the junction PM for generating a turbulent flow. Temperatures 5, 6 and 7 are provided at a downstream position with respect to the heater 4 of the branch pipe 2 and at positions before and after the stirring device 8. The mass flow rate Qm is represented by an equation (1) and the flow rate can be determined. The error in the measurement is reduced, since the fluid after the junction is well mixed due to the provision of the stirring device 8. Where T1 is the temperature of the branched fluid F2 after heating, T0 is the temperature of the objective fluid F1 before confluence, T2 is the temperature of the objective fluid F1 after confluence, and Qm is the mass flow rate measured by a flow meter 3.
