Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise the color developing property and light resistance of a pressure- sensitive paper by using a solvent for dyeing the pressure-sensitive paper, obtained by a procedure in which ethylene benzene heavy end is distilled and then treated with activated clay to obtain a fraction having a boiling point of 265-280 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:Ethylbenzene heavy end, obtained from alkylation of benzene with ethylene, is distilled under reduced pressure at a bottom temperature of 300 deg.C or lower to remove a heavy components having a boiling point of 350 deg.C or higher under ordinary pressure, and then the distillate is mixed with 1 to 15wt% activated clay and heat-treated continuously or batchwise at 60-250 deg.C for 30min-5hr. After the treatment with activated clay, the distillate is distilled under reduced pressure at a bottom temperature of 300 deg.C or lower to obtain a fraction having a boiling point of 265-280 deg.C under ordinary pressure. The fraction thus obtained is used as a solvent for dyeing pressure-sensitive paper. The solvent has good light resistance and is free of problems with odors and color tone, because heavy components resulting from the polymerization, etc., of unsaturated compounds and light components resulting from decomposing reactions are removed from the solvent.
