Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce stress at the time of welding and prevent stress corrosion cracking of a weld zone by making the position of a joint a specified length apart from the part where there is change in rigidity between both prts or the part jointed to other members and performing butt welding using building up at the same time.
CONSTITUTION: In butt welding of a joint of different materials such as a carbon steel tube and a stainless steel tube, the position of the joint is made apart from the part where there is change in rigidity or the part connected to other member by a distance of ≥2.5(R.t)1/2 where R is radius and (t) is the thickness of the tube. Under this condition, butt welding is performed after applying build up welding of inconel etc. to a member, for instance a carbon steel tube. By this method, stress at the time of welding is released and stress corrosion cracking caused by stress level can be prevented. This method can be applied to butt welding of a joint of different materials used in nuclear power plants etc.
