Abstract

PURPOSE: To convert the exhaust gas containing therein sulfur compounds and nitrogen compounds into completely innoxious gas having a higher economical value, by specifying combustion temperature and dwell period in combusting the exhaust gas completely.
CONSTITUTION: Acidic gas contained in the exhaust gas is removed by an adsorbent in a wet desulfurizing means, and the gas containing hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen cyanide produced in regenerating the adsorbent is removed in a Claus reactor for recovering them as refined sulfur, or otherwise combusting them directly in the state of gas and leading the combustion gas to a sulfuric acid producing means. In combusting gas containing hydrogen sulfide and ammonia produced in the sulfuric acid producing means efficiently, combustion is carried out the temperature range of 800W950°C in the presence of a sufficient amount of oxygen and the dwell period of gas is selected in the range of 0.5W1 second. By employing such a method, it is enabled to produce stable and high-quality SO2 containing gas and to obtain sulfuric acid and other products having a high economical value.
